Die Zeit Interviews Hoc-Trade Founder on Behavioral AI in Trading
On December 11, 2025, Die Zeit, one of Germany's leading national newspapers, published an interview with Jonas Schleypen, CEO and co-founder of Hoc-Trade, the company behind TradeMedic™ AI. The conversation, led by journalist Thomas Fischermann and titled "Wir erweitern die menschlichen Fähigkeiten" ("We extend human capabilities"), appeared in the paper's ZEIT für Geld economics section. The full interview is available on zeit.de (in German, subscription required).
What the interview covered
While much of the industry races to build AI that predicts markets or trades autonomously, the conversation focused on the opposite approach. Hoc-Trade builds behavioral trading analytics: AI that analyzes the trader's own behavior and state of mind, not the market. TradeMedic™ AI detects recurring behavioral patterns in a trader's real trade history, quantifies their financial effect, and presents the findings in the style of a medical report: what is within the norm, and where it gets critical.
Schleypen walked through the behavioral finance foundations behind the product. Loss aversion, described by Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky in Prospect Theory, means a loss hurts roughly two to three times more than an equivalent gain feels good. In trading, that asymmetry shows up as small wins and outsized losses: traders lock in modest profits too early because losing them would hurt, and let losing positions run because closing them makes the pain real.
The interview also covered revenge trading, one of the most common patterns TradeMedic™ AI detects. Across the trading data Hoc-Trade analyzes, a consistent relationship appears: the shorter a trader waits after a loss before re-entering the market, the worse the results tend to be. Schleypen also shared a result from Hoc-Trade's simulations: trades the system would have allowed through performed 63 percent better than the trades it would have filtered out.
The discussion closed on the company's core stance. Rather than replacing human traders with autonomous systems, the goal is to extend human capabilities: giving traders visibility into the psychological patterns that shape their results, so the final decision stays theirs and gets better.
